Forensic Science

Recent advances in scientific methods and principles have had an enormous impact upon law enforcement and the entire criminal justice system. Forensic Science focuses on the application of scientific methods and techniques to crime and law. This course provides an introduction to understanding the science behind crime detection. Scientific methods specifically relevant to crime detection and analysis are presented with emphasis placed upon the techniques used in evaluating physical evidence. Among the topics included are blood analysis, DNA, drug chemistry and toxicology, fiber comparisons, fingerprints, soil comparisons, insects associated with decomposition, and bullet analysis. Laboratory exercises include techniques commonly employed in forensic investigations.
