Aquinas Girls Lacrosse

Girls Lacrosse is currently the fastest growing sport in the United States and is growing Worldwide.  Girls Lacrosse is also played at about 600 colleges and around 2,000 high schools nationwide.  Aquinas is giving our 7th – 12th grade girls the opportunity to play in the fastest growing sport in the US.  If interested please contact our Athletic Department at Aquinas for further information.

The Girls Lacrosse Program always starts the second Monday in March and goes through the end of May.  All players are discouraged from leaving during spring break.  Athletes should plan on seeing the nurse for requalification near the end of February.  They should also have a current physical that will extend through the spring playing season.

The off-season athletes are encourage to play in summer, fall, and winter league.  Summer league is every Sunday in the month of July.  Fall and Winter league is every Sunday, except for holidays, starting in late October all the way through February.  Also, the players are encouraged to hit the weight room at least twice a week.

Varsity Head Coach Katie Callahan started her lacrosse career at Brighton.  She played boys modified lacrosse for a year (‘94-‘95) and then started playing girls lacrosse the following year (‘96).  She played half a year on JV and was pulled up to play Varsity as a midfielder and that is where she stayed until she graduated in 2000.  She was named All Greater Rochester athlete 3 years in a row and was also an All – American.  She played 3 years on the Rochester high school Empire team and 2 years on the National Lacrosse Team for NY.  She received a scholarship to Niagara University where she played defense for all 4 years.  She was name second team All MAAC her freshmen year and then first team All MAAC her Sophomore, Junior and Senior year.  She was also named ALL MAAC Defender of the Year her Junior year (’02-’03).  She has previously coached at Rush Henrietta, MCC, and RIT.  She has coached at Aquinas for the past 3 years and has built the girls lacrosse program up from a record of 2-17 to a record last year of 8-10.  She plans on getting her team on a winning record and one day plans on getting the girls to sectional finals and continuing on to States.

Message from Coach Callahan:

Us Coaches would first like to say thank you to our girls and let you know how proud we are of every single one of you.  We may have had a rocky year but we held on and had a great season.  We continue to improve and for us coaches we respect your commitment to your team.  We look forward to our State Run next year!!   As for my Seniors we wish you nothing but success in the future and we will miss you more than you know.

Parents thank you for supporting your daughters and always being there for them.  They would not be the athletes they are today if they didn’t have you in their corner rooting them on.  You may not get the same recognition as your daughters but you are a huge part of why the girls have a great year each year.  Coach Jen and I would like to thank you immensely for always being there and always supporting our decisions as we couldn’t have made this season possible if it weren’t for your help.
