Athletic Director's Welcome

Athletic Director's Welcome

As an alumnus of Aquinas, I am proud to be part of such a rich tradition of academic and athletic excellence. Throughout its long and proud history, The Aquinas Institute has embraced a philosophy that a well-rounded athletic program is an integral part of the Aquinas educational mission.

As a Catholic institution, Aquinas espouses Christian values and principles, and promotes the development of the human spirit, mind, and body. Aquinas athletics will continue as a vehicle for developing these qualities, while fostering a safe, fun, and friendly environment for our student athletes.

Because the Aquinas athletic department feels that athletics should also build strong faith and character, we've introduced a few new initiatives to players and coaches in just the past couple of seasons. One of those initiatives included the "3 Dimensions of Coaching" program, which helps coaches realize the power of the coaching platform to inspire, motivate, and produce positive change in the lives of every individual that comes through their programs.

Last fall, we invited Mr. Cubby Chalmers from The Joshua Group, to work with coaches and student athletes on the development of character, faith, and leadership through sports. He will return again this year, to continue the great work he's been doing.

Aquinas is proud that a large percentage of our students participate in athletics and that each year, nearly all of our varsity teams are eligible for the New York State Scholar Athlete Team Award. Working with our outstanding faculty and coaching staff, our student athletes become well-rounded individuals, who benefit from an athletic philosophy promoting fitness for life, and healthy lifestyles free of drugs and alcohol.

Due to the generosity of our fine alumni, Aquinas has some of the finest athletic facilities in the state. However, it is the people of AQ who make it such a wonderful place. I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the coaches, players, parents, faculty, administration, alumni, and fans that have helped make Aquinas Athletics a first-class program that promotes the Basilian tradition of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.

In closing, I want to extend my best wishes to our student athletes and coaches for a successful, healthy, and blessed school year. Continue to represent Aquinas with class, dignity, and respect while demonstrating competitive spirit and fair play. Above all, develop life-long friendships and a true devotion to Aquinas, which gives meaning to our Alma Mater; "Aquinas Evermore." GO IRISH!

Sincerely,

Anthony Bianchi '81
