Aquinas Welcomes Billy Lombardi ’13 as New Head Coach of Varsity Boys Lacrosse

The Aquinas Institute is thrilled to announce that Billy Lombardi, Class of 2013, has been named the new Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team.

During his time as a student-athlete at Aquinas, Lombardi excelled on and off the field. A four-year varsity lacrosse starter and two-year team captain, he played a pivotal role in leading the school to its first-ever Boys Lacrosse Sectional Championship in 2010. His football career at Aquinas was equally remarkable, as a three-year varsity football starter and two-year team captain. Lombardi also contributed to the 2010 State Championship Team and earned the titles of 2011 Class A, All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year and Class A, New York State Player of the Year. Lombardi graduated as Aquinas Boys Student Athlete of the Year, leaving an enduring legacy of leadership and excellence.

Following his time at Aquinas, Lombardi went on to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State University, where he was a four-year standout and earned the prestigious Teammate of the Year Award in 2017. He graduated from Penn State the same year, bringing with him a passion for teamwork, dedication, and mentorship that has continued to shape his career.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Lombardi has made significant contributions as an educator and coach. He taught at Aquinas for five years (2019–2024) while serving as an Assistant Coach for the Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team. His coaching career also includes two seasons of Division II lacrosse at Roberts Wesleyan University and four seasons of high school football at Penfield. In 2023, he was inducted into the Section V Football Hall of Fame, further solidifying his reputation as an influential figure in the Rochester sports community.

Lombardi’s vision for the team emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and character development. His appointment marks a homecoming to the place where his athletic journey began, and he is eager to inspire a new generation of student-athletes at Aquinas.
